Emma Basic Bao Bun Clean Label 50g
Soft, pillowy, unfilled. Steam five minutes — fill them yourself.
About
Unfilled by design: why blank bao are better.
Pre-filled bao buns are a convenience compromise. The filling is usually made to survive freezing and reheating, which means it's designed around durability rather than flavour. By the time you eat it, the texture of the filling has suffered and you have no control over what's inside.
Blank bao change the proposition. The bun itself — a simple dough of flour, water, yeast, oil, salt, and a small amount of sugar — can be made very well. Steam for five minutes, fill with whatever you've cooked, and the result is both fresher and more flexible.
